UGC vs influencer marketing: what is the difference?
UGC (user-generated content) is content created by a creator for your brand to use in your own advertising, without the creator posting it to their own audience. You pay for the creative production but not the distribution. This makes UGC 40-60% cheaper than a full influencer post at equivalent production quality.
When UGC makes more sense than influencer posting
UGC is the better choice when you have existing paid social campaigns that need fresh creative, when you need content variety (multiple hooks and angles to test), or when your product does not yet have the brand authority to justify macro influencer fees. A UGC-based testing strategy lets you identify what converts before spending on influencer distribution.
Combining UGC and whitelisting
The most cost-efficient paid social strategy in 2026 combines UGC creation with optional whitelisting. The creator produces the video (UGC rate). If it performs well in your initial test spend, you add whitelisting rights and scale it as a paid ad. This approach avoids spending the whitelisting premium on content that has not proven it converts yet.
