The 10 questions to ask during an influencer platform demo
A well-run influencer platform demo is a sales performance. The rep knows exactly which features to show, which examples to use and which corners to avoid. Your job in that 30-minute window is to redirect the conversation toward the things that actually matter for your campaigns. These 10 questions do that.
Questions 1-3: Database reality
One: what percentage of creators in my specific niche have posted content in the last 60 days? This question separates active databases from stale ones. Any rep who cannot give a number is working with data they cannot audit. Two: how often is creator engagement data refreshed for a typical profile? Monthly is good. Quarterly is a red flag for fast-moving platforms like TikTok. Three: for a brand, what percentage of creators in a filtered search actually have in-market audiences? Some platforms include creators based in the but with international followings. These are not useful for a buyer.
Questions 4-6: Outreach mechanics
Four: what is the average open rate on outreach sent through your platform across all users? This is the number they will least want to share. Push for a benchmark. If they say "it depends on your message" that is not an answer. Five: does the platform generate unique tracking links for each creator automatically or does the user set these up manually? Manual UTM setup gets skipped under campaign pressure. Six: can I send outreach from my own branded domain through your platform or does it come from a shared platform address? Shared address outreach has lower deliverability and no brand signal for the creator.

Questions 7-9: Data and exit
Seven: if I cancel, what data can I export and in what format? Ask specifically about creator contacts, outreach history and campaign results. Eight: is there an API and what does it cost to access? This matters if you ever want to pull data into your own reporting stack. Nine: what is the process and timeline for a price increase at renewal? Most platforms include language allowing price increases. Ask directly what the cap is.
Question 10: The proof question
Ten: can you show me a case study from a brand in my specific industry that started from zero and ran their first three campaigns using your platform? Generic case studies with unnamed brands are not evidence. A named brand in your niche that ran real campaigns and achieved measurable results is. If they cannot produce one, ask what the closest equivalent is and what the results were. This question reveals the platform's actual customer base faster than any feature demonstration.
