We were founded in December 2015 in Beverly Hills. Today we serve 200+ paying brands across DTC, eCommerce and SaaS. The team is 50 people, remote first, with one in-person retreat a year.

About the role

Own the email channel for KALO IQ. 218K subscribers, 12 lifecycle campaigns, the biggest revenue channel we have not maximized. This is a senior individual contributor role. You will own outcomes not tasks. You will work async with a small team that ships every week.

Who you will work with

This role reports to Aman Bhandari, our Co-founder & CMO. You will work closely with Aman Bhandari (CMO) directly. Day to day with the content team and the demand gen lead. Weekly check-in with product on lifecycle triggers.

What you will do

  • Own the email channel end to end. Strategy, list health, deliverability, lifecycle, campaigns, reporting. We have 218,400 subscribers and the channel produces 17% of new trials. We think it should produce 28%.
  • Rebuild the welcome series. 6 emails over 14 days. The current one was written 11 months ago and has a 22% open rate. Get it to 38%.
  • Run the weekly newsletter. Every Thursday. 218K recipients. You write or edit every line. We have an editorial calendar but you own the final ship.
  • Build the win-back program. We have 41,200 lapsed users. You will design the sequence, run the test and we will know in 30 days if it works.
  • Own deliverability like an engineer. SPF, DKIM, DMARC, sending reputation, list hygiene. The numbers don't care how good the copy is if the email lands in spam.

Skills and experience we look for

  • 5+ years running email at a B2B SaaS or DTC brand. Bonus if you have run a list above 100,000 subscribers through a domain warming process.
  • You can write. Subject lines, preview text, body, CTAs. We will ask for 3 sample emails you have actually sent, with real open and click rates.
  • You know one of Customer.io, Iterable or Braze deeply. You can build a 7-step lifecycle journey with branches without a 4-hour vendor support call.
  • You can read deliverability data. SPF, DKIM, DMARC, sender score, BIMI, list cleaning. You have at least once recovered a domain reputation from below 70.
  • You have killed an email channel that wasn't working and replaced it with one that did. You know when to declare bankruptcy on a list and start over.

How we hire

  1. Application. Tell us why this role and KALO IQ specifically. Skip the template cover letter. We read every application. Two paragraphs is plenty.
  2. Recruiter screen. 30-minute call with the hiring manager. We talk through your background, the role and what you want next.
  3. Take-home task. A small paid take-home, scoped to 4 hours of work. You keep the IP. We pay $400 USD whether or not you advance.
  4. Working session. 90-minute live session with 2 teammates. We work through a real problem we are currently solving. No whiteboard puzzles.
  5. Founder chat. 45 minutes with James Carter (CEO) or Aman Bhandari (CMO) depending on the role. Two-way conversation about KALO IQ direction.
  6. References and offer. Two reference calls. Offer within 5 business days of the working session.

Total elapsed time: 14 to 21 days. We respect your time. We will tell you no fast if we are not advancing you.
