Follower growth rate FAQ
The headline figure is the simple change between your two counts: the difference divided by the starting count. The monthly and annual figures compound that rate over the period you chose, so a 5% rise over 90 days becomes about 1.6% a month rather than 5% a month. Compounding is the right way to express it because followers accrue on a growing base.
Because we do not measure follower growth. Our index records a creator’s current follower count and engagement rate, not a history of follower counts over time, and the posting frequency field is empty for every row. Publishing an industry growth figure next to our measured engagement figures would blur the line the rest of this site works to keep sharp.
There is no honest single answer, which is why this page does not give one. The useful comparison is a creator against their own previous periods, and a creator against others you are considering at the same size. A growth rate that looks slow in isolation can be strong for a mature account in a narrow niche.
Usually not. Instagram removes inactive and fake accounts in waves, so a visible drop often means the audience got cleaner rather than smaller in any way that matters. Watch engagement rate across the same window: if engagement holds or rises while followers fall, the account improved.
