How to set your influencer marketing budget
The single most common budgeting mistake is starting with a number and working backwards to a creator count. The right approach is the reverse: define your campaign goal first, work out which creator tier serves that goal best, then calculate the total from per-creator rates. This tool does that calculation for you.
Conversion campaigns: spend more on fewer, higher-engagement creators
For campaigns where the goal is sales or signups, micro influencers at 3-6% engagement drive better CPA than macro influencers at 1-2%. Spend $5,000 on 8 micro influencers rather than $5,000 on one macro influencer and expect significantly better conversion volume.
Awareness campaigns: prioritise reach over engagement depth
For product launches where awareness is the primary goal, one or two macro influencers at 250K-500K reach can move brand recognition metrics faster than 20 nano creators combined. Use macros for the launch spike and layer micro creators in the weeks following for sustained conversion.
Always budget for the platform subscription separately
A discovery and outreach platform like KALO IQ costs $79 a month. That is separate from creator fees and should be treated as a fixed overhead cost not a variable cost per campaign. Across 6 campaigns a year that is $13 per campaign -- not worth excluding for the time it saves you.
