My videos lose people in the first couple of seconds. How do I write a hook that actually makes them stay?

The first two seconds decide your reach, so the hook is most of the job. Make it do one of three things: call out exactly who it is for, promise a clear payoff, or open a loop the viewer needs closed. Be specific, how I booked three brand deals in a month beats tips for creators. Put your strongest words first, cut the throat-clearing intro, and match the on-screen text to what you say out loud. Film three hooks for every video and post the one that stops your own scroll.

The hook is the whole game

Two seconds decide whether the algorithm pushes you. Spend your effort there.

Do one of three jobs

Call out the viewer, promise a payoff, or open a loop. Pick one and nail it.

Be specific

Real numbers and named outcomes beat vague tips. Specific feels worth watching.

Test three

Film a few hooks, post the one that stops you. Your gut is a decent algorithm.

I write five hooks before I film anything now. The video is the easy part, the first line is what actually does the work.

Specific wins. The day I swapped tips for X to the exact number I got, my watch time and reach both jumped.

Cut your intro entirely. Hi guys welcome back is two seconds of scroll bait. Open on the payoff instead.
