Setting engagement rate minimums

Updated June 3, 2026 · By Sophia Miller

Engagement rate is the single best quick signal of a real, active audience. Here is how to set a sensible minimum so you screen out dead accounts without cutting good creators.

Set the minimum

In Discover, open the Engagement rate filter and set a minimum. Results then only show creators at or above that rate, calculated from recent posts not lifetime averages.

Sensible floors by platform

  • Instagram: 3.5% is a solid floor for micro creators, 2% for larger accounts.
  • TikTok: 5% and up, since TikTok engagement runs higher.
  • YouTube: 2% on views-to-engagement is healthy.

Smaller accounts naturally post higher rates, so do not hold a 500K creator to the same bar as a 20K one.

Do not over-filter

Setting the minimum too high cuts good creators who simply have larger audiences. Start moderate, scan the results and tighten only if the quality is not there. Pair this filter with the fake follower score for the clearest picture.

Yes. Engagement naturally drops as audience grows, so use a lower floor for larger accounts.
